SCIENTIST · CLINICAL PRACTITIONER · PACIENT

The science has always been a passion.

Violante Pacheco de Medeiros is a naturopath, phytotherapist, and plant biologist with a PhD in Plant Molecular Biology and 25 years of applied research into plant-derived bioactive compounds. The clinical practice stemmed from the science.

Violante Pacheco de Medeiros, PhD

Naturopath & Phytotherapist · PhD in Molecular Biology

Trained in Molecular Biology, with 25 years of research into plant-derived bioactive compounds. Over the last five years, she returned to formal study — Naturopathy, Phytotherapy, Functional Diagnostic Medicine — to work clinically with people, applying the same underlying scientific rigour.

An asthmatic child.

She was an asthmatic child — eczema-prone, reactive, carefully protected from anything that might trigger a crisis. No playing on the grass, no camping, no wild swimming. A flower in a dome, lovingly guarded. She didn't resent it. But she grew up knowing that her body set the boundaries of her life in ways she didn't yet understand.

Biology was where she went to find the answers. She studied it, lived inside it, earned a PhD in Molecular Biology — and somewhere along the way, by understanding what was actually happening in her body and removing the foods that were driving her inflammation, she came off her asthma medication at thirty. The sensitivities didn't disappear. But she learned to read them — to decipher what her body was trying to say, rather than silence it.

"That changed everything."

Then came motherhood — and karma, apparently. Both her children were asthmatic infants. She navigated it again, this time with more tools and less fear. Today one of them manages rhinitis, the other sinusitis. Much simpler. And at thirty-six, she could finally roll over on the grass and play with her kids. That moment — unremarkable to most people, enormous to her — is quietly behind everything she does.

The distance between discovery and its contribution was too large.

Years in research — mapping genes involved in lateral organ formation, moving into plant physiology applied to crop production. Relevant contribution, but slow. The kind where the distance between discovery and real-world impact is measured in decades, not months. She found that distance increasingly hard to accept. She wanted to contribute with what she knew — and do it now.

Her curiosity about plant compounds had always been personal as much as professional. When motherhood brought new questions, she began formulating. Natural cosmetics with whole ingredients, carefully chosen based on scientific evidence. People started asking questions about the products. Then about their own conditions. And she realised she wanted to answer those questions properly — not just as a formulator, but as a practitioner.

So she went back to studying. Naturopathy, Phytotherapy, Functional Diagnostic Medicine. The last five years have been the most applied of her life — working clinically with patients, with the person right there in front of her, who could actually be helped.

"I find complex cases genuinely fascinating. Somewhere inside every tangle of apparently unrelated symptoms there is a physiological story that makes complete sense."

I don't treat conditions or isolated symptoms.
I treat people whose conditions are asking to be understood.

Every patient comes as a unique individual, carrying their own history — memories, stressors, habits, blocks, and scars that are written into their biology as clearly as any lab result. The body holds what the mind hasn't yet processed.

The approach moves in two directions simultaneously. Inside-out: skin, gut, immunity, hormones, and cognitive function are not separate systems — they are one system, in constant conversation. Outside-in: the nervous system, the breath, the weight of a life lived under chronic stress — these too are written into the biology, and they too need to be addressed. The two directions are not opposed. They work in symphony for the same goals.
